Barack and Michelle Obama's production company, Higher Ground, is transitioning to an independent operation after eight years of working with Netflix. The announcement was made at an event in Philadelphia, part of a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. The Obamas signed a producing deal with Netflix in 2018 and in 2024, they will extend their partnership to a multi-year first-look deal for all of their film and TV projects. Recent projects with Netflix include Oscar-nominated films Rustin, American Symphony and Crip Camp, and the Oscar-winning film American Factory.
