Phoenix-area GOP reignites controversy in Republican governor’s race

The controversy surrounding Republican gubernatorial candidate, Rep. Andy Biggs, has reignited after his own party intervened in a political dispute with his opponent, Rep., David Schweikert, who accused him of supporting white supremacists and anti-semites. The Maricopa County Republican Committee condemned Schweickert's accusation, calling it "false and lazy" and aligning with "Democrat-style politics". The controversy was reignited by leaked audio of Biggs comparing himself to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. The best available polling numbers show Biggs trailing in the Republican governor's race.
