Ohio lawmakers trade blame as Congress struggles to fund airport screeners, end DHS shutdown

Ohio lawmakers are blaming each other for not approving a two-week funding plan for Homeland Security (DHS), while looking for a broader deal to end the impasse. This comes after Sen. Bernie Moreno was blocked by Democrats on the Senate floor, who also prevented action on their plan to pay airport screeners, but not the full Department of Homeland Security. Democrats are still angry about the killing of two U.S. citizens by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis in January, and have called for reforms to make agents operate more like local police departments. The White House has resisted most of these changes. The shutdown continues, affecting agencies including FEMA, the Coast Guard, and the Transportation Security Administration.
