Historian of Maryland history professor, Julia Taddo, discusses King Charles' address to Congress, which is being hailed as a significant moment in history. Charles was the third brother of King Charles and the second British Briton to address a joint session of Congress. The visit was made during a period of strained relations between the two countries due to the U.S. and Great Britain's involvement in the GULF War and the aftermath of the Cold War. The last monarch to address Congress was the Queen Elizabeth II in 1991. TADDo suggests that Charles used this occasion to emphasise the importance of the shared cultural value between the United States and Britain. She also notes that Charles' visit was his first as King and his mother's first in the US as Queen. The professor discusses the impact of this visit on international relations and hopes to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the countries.
