DwarfLab Dwarf Mini smart telescope review
Published on April 28, 2026.
The DwarfLab Dwarf Mini smart telescope, a compact, beginner-friendly smart telescope controlled by a smartphone, delivers capable astrophotography in a small package and is particularly suited for urban use in light-polluted cities. It uses automated alignment and in-app stacking to capture the moon, sun, and bright deep-sky objects in minutes. Despite its 2MP sensor limiting image quality, the DwarfLab's compact design and affordable price appeal to a wide range of amateur astronomers seeking a simple-to-use imaging tool. The internal optics include a 5.91-inch (150 mm) focal length (f/5 focal ratio) refractor lens and a Sony IMX662 CMOS sensor, which are known for their low-light performance but low resolution, and a motorized filter wheel. The Dwarf Mini can simulate equatorial tracking once aligned with Polaris, the North Star (in the Northern Hemisphere), using this mode to reduce star trails and enhance images. The included solar filter attaches securely to the lens and cleaning cloths, but there is no tripod in the box. The device also has two modes, including wide-angle mode and a zoom mode, and can also capture constellations and the Milky Way.
