Signal and WhatsApp users face sweeping Russian phishing push, Dutch agencies warn

Russia is reportedly engaged in a global attempt to take over Signal and WhatsApp accounts, according to two Dutch intelligence agencies. The agencies claim that hackers are using phishing techniques to target high-profile individuals posing as accounts with names like "Signal support" and securing their access to these accounts. The scheme has already compromised the messages of Dutch government employees and is likely to include individuals of interest to the Russian government. This follows a similar warning by Germany in February that hackers were attempting to phish high-ranking Signal users in German military and politics.
