Anthropic ramps up its D.C. presence

Anthropic is expanding its presence in Washington, D.C. ahead of the midterms with plans to tripling its policy team and opening a permanent office in the city. The company plans to continue advocating for export controls on advanced chips, a clear federal AI regulation framework, energy ratepayer protections and model transparency. Anthropic's new head of public policy, Sarah Heck, will replace co-founder Jack Clark, who previously held the role. She will also lead The Anthropic Institute, a new research venture where he will oversee three teams: The Frontier Red Team, The Societal Impacts team, and The Economic Research team. The federal affairs team includes registered lobbyists from both parties.
