40 Years Later, The Sci-Fi Novel Octavia Butler Disowned Is Coming Back to Print

The sci-fi novel, 1978's Survivor, by Octavia E. Butler, which she personally disliked, is being re-released 40 years after her death. The book, part of Butler's "Patternist" series, was her personal least favorite and was kept out of print by the author after its initial printing. After its initial printout, she used her influence to prevent it from ever coming back into print. First-edition copies of the book from being sold for thousands of dollars through rare-book dealers. Despite her disapproapproach, Butler's fans have expressed interest in the book and its prescient predictions of the future. Hachette Book Group’s Grand Central Publishing division is bringing the novel, Survivor, to print. The publisher Nana K. Twumasi stated that the reprint is about wanting a "piece of this person that we all respect and want to get her due".
