U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce, currently seeking his eighth term in the U.S House of Representatives, has been challenged by both sides of the aisle in both the South Russell Republican and Trumbull County Commissioner Niki Frenchko, and three Democrats vying for the GOP nomination argue that he is too liberal and too Trumpy. They hope backlash against President Donald Trump's controversial policies will change the outcome in a district that hasn't sent a Democrat to Washington since 1995. Joyce, who chairs one of 12 House Appropriations subcommittees that draft the federal budget, has almost $3.3 million in the bank and has been using it to run a television ad touting his endorsement from President Donald Obama. He also supports efforts to reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and fight opioid addiction, and to combat human trafficking through the IMPACTT Human Trafficking Act.
