The Supreme Court has overturned a $1 billion judgment by major record labels in a case against internet provider Cox Communications. The court stated that a company is not liable for copyright infringer for merely providing a service to the general public with knowledge that it will be used by some users to infringe on copyrights. The RIAA expressed disappointment at the court's decision, stating there is overwhelming evidence that Cox knowingly facilitated theft.
