Naveed Akram, accused of opening fire on a Jewish Hanukkah celebration in Sydney's Bondi Beach, has lost a bid to prevent media from revealing the identities of his family. The bid was opposed by several Australian media groups who argued that it would prevent proper reporting on the case. Akram's alleged attack, which killed 15 people, was reportedly inspired by Islamic State. The incident has sparked public interest and prompted calls for tighter gun control and action to combat antisemitism.
