Gail Giustino, a 77-year-old mail carrier from the US Postal Service, was arrested after deputies discovered over 100 animals living in a feces-filled home in Stuart, Florida, where some rooms were buried under a foot of waste. The officers were armed with a search warrant and found the animals in a stifling stench, sweltering temperatures, no air conditioning or ventilation, and more than 100 animals. The pets, roughly 70 cats and the rest dogs, were in "pretty terrible shape. Some of the cats were catatonic, and others were traumatized. Since 2014, Giustinos' home has been hit with about 65 citations due to the conditions she kept her animals in. She was charged with one count each of animal cruelty and confinement of animals without sufficient exercise and could face up to 160 counts of animal abuse.
