The film, which follows Melania Trump ahead of her inauguration, generated about $7 million in its opening weekend. Amazon MGM Studios reportedly spent $40 million on the rights to the film and docuseries, along with an additional $35 million in marketing. The company has denied any political motivation for the decision to overpay, stating it licensed the project because it believes customers will love it.
