Nigerian Emo-Afrobeats star CKay seeks to redefine how people view African music

Nigerian artist CKay, known for his signature Emo-Afrobeats style, has released his latest song, "Badminton," which has been gaining traction online. The song combines high-energy, melodic lyrics and warm ambient synthesizers with instruments like guitars, electric or acoustic keyboards. CKay also expressed his desire to move beyond the Afrobeats label, which he believes is too general. He compares the broad Afrobeat label to calling Western music simply "Western music". CKay hopes this will help people better appreciate the diversity of African music. His latest project aims to be the first Nigerian solo artist to achieve this milestone in 2021.
