British television journalists of color are experiencing "resentment" and "backlash" from white colleagues over the perceived advantages of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, according to a study by the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity. The study, led by Rohit Kachroo, ITV News’ global security editor, and Birmingham City University lecturer Dr Ellie Tomsett, found that 63% of respondents had experienced racism in their workplace and 60% disagreed with the statement that diversity schemes introduced over the past five years were "working well". Journalists of color also expressed dissatisfaction with diversity strategies, feeling they were poorly managed and misunderstood. The report recommended seven recommendations, including involving journalists in discussions about the effectiveness of diversity initiatives and ensuring white leaders are properly championing schemes.
