The Iran war is expected to accelerate the electrification of China’s heavy truck fleet and reduce fuel demand, according to analysts and automakers. The increase in diesel prices has led to a 45% increase in new-energy heavy truck sales this year, accounting for more than a quarter of the segment. Some energy consultancies now predict a 4.3% fall in diesel use this year compared to the pre-war forecast of 4.1%. The rise in retail diesel prices in China has made buying electric heavy trucks more appealing. Electric heavy trucks cost over 500,000 yuan ($73,500) in China and diesel versions more than 300,000 euros respectively, but buyers can offset this difference through a trade-in programme extended in April.
