ICE asks Utah jail to hold suspect beyond local charges in attempted murder case

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has requested that local officials keep Jesus Alejandro Ramirez-Padilla, a Mexican national, in custody beyond his local charges. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder after a woman was found with a deep cut along her neck in an alley in Salt Lake City. The victim was found by police with a motion-activated camera showing a man with similar appearance. During an interview with police, Ramirez-Possible admitted to strangling and cutting the woman's throat several times and claiming his state of mind was influenced by drugs. He has been accused of attempted murder, obstruction of justice, aggravated assault, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Department of Homeland Security has issued a detainer for his arrest and stated that he poses a significant threat to the community.
