Longtime Saint Mary's basketball coach, Randy Bennett, is leaving for Arizona State, where he will replace Bobby Hurley who had his contract not renewed after 11 seasons. Bennett, a native of Mesa, Arizona, is the son of former Mesa Community College coach Tom Bennett, who was named seven-time conference coach of the year seven times. He led the Gaels to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances and 11 conference championships over 25 seasons. Assistant head coach Mickey McConnell is expected to take over the program. Bennett described his departure as a "win-win" situation, noting that Saint Mary’s could have four starters back next season, including three first-team all-conference players.
