New details reveal that a Phoenix murder-suicide suspect had his gun rights restored after a prior assault conviction. The victim, identified as James Main, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in the 1990s and lost his right to own a gun ten years later. Andrew Marcantel, a criminal attorney with Attorneys for Freedom Law Firm, explained that in Arizona, there are three ways a person can lose their right to have their gun rights: placed on a mental health hold, convicted of any domestic violence-related crime, or convicted of a felony. If the felony is considered dangerous, an application and a longer wait will be required.
