The Portland Thorns defeated the Washington Spirit 1-0 in the National Women's Soccer League season opener. This was the first road shutout for the Thorns against the Spirit since 2021. Trinity Rodman started for the Spirit after signing a three-year deal to return to the team in the offseason. Sophia Wilson, who didn't play last season, played her first minutes in over a year in a preseason match against Monterrey. The game was attended by a sellout crowd of 19,215.
