Paul Davies, a theoretical physicist and director of the Beyond Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science at Arizona State University, has written a new book, Quantum 2.0: The Weird Physics Driving a New Revolution in Technology. The book explains how quantum mechanics has revolutionized science in the past century and will continue to do so going forward. It includes a focus on manipulating quantum physics in non-trivial ways using concepts such as entanglement or superposition. With Quantum 2., Davies explains that it is possible to manipulate individual particles and their quantum states to ensure their information is encoded in the individual particles themselves, not in larger devices. With the centenary of Quantum 1.0, UNESCO declared 2025 to be the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
