The announcement of the Kraken ownership, which includes former CEO of the Seattle Kraken, Tod Leiweke and former owner Samantha Holloway, led to the creation of One Roof Sports and Entertainment, a new parent company that will run the hockey team, Kraken Community Iceplex, and take over a majority ownership of Climate Pledge Arena from the Oak View Group (OAG). While OAG will still manage the arena, the ownership change raises a significant concern for Dr. Natalie Welch, director of Seattle University’s sports and Entertainment department, said the change could make it harder for another ownership group to enter the NBA. The NBA owners will vote on whether or not to open up the league for bids for new franchises in Seattle and/or Las Vegas.
