A strong cold front has moved east New Mexico and western Texas, leading to cooler temperatures across the region, with temperatures expected to bottom out in the low 20s to low 30s by sunrise on Thursday. This will be followed by a shift from northeast to more easterly winds, which will shift eastward. Temperatures are expected to peak in the upper 60s to mid 70s on Thursday, with high temperatures expected throughout the week. However, fire weather conditions will increase, so be aware of outdoor burning and activities that could result in sparks. The warming trend is expected to continue throughout the short term forecast period, with highs expected to reach the 70s and 80s on Friday, followed by the 80s and 90s on Saturday. A record high temperature in Lubbock is expected for Saturday, breaking a 54-year-old record set by the previous day.
