Duke was the top overall seed for March Madness, followed by Arizona, Michigan, and Florida. The selection process was predictable, with Michigan's loss to Purdue being the result of the Wolverines' loss. Miami (Ohio) narrowly missed out on the field, despite a 31-1 record and a 339th-ranked strength of schedule. The tournament will begin with play-in games involving bubble teams and No. 11 seeds. Other notable teams left out were San Diego State, Indiana, Oklahoma and Auburn. The Southeastern Conference led the way by placing 10 teams in the field of 68, four short of its record from last year. North Carolina, a No. 6 seed after losing Caleb Wilson to a broken thumb, was also a factor in its No. 5 seeding. The NCAA's seeding principles were also cited as a factor.
