Americans’ view of environment hits new low ahead of Earth Day: Gallup

A new Gallup survey has found that a record-low 35 percent of American respondents are rating the quality of their country's environment positively, a move ahead of Earth Day. The poll also found that 43 percent of respondents rated the environment as fair, while 2 in 10 rated it as poor. Over 3 in 5 respondents believe that the government is doing too little to protect the environment, while 27 percent believe it is too much and 7% believe it's doing about the right amount. The Trump administration has been shifting towards fossil fuels and has proposed a significant expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling. The survey was conducted from March 2-18 via telephone interviews with 1,000 U.S. adults in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
