University presidents are facing a "Kobayashi Maru moment" moment, when they must publicly address social issues such as social justice or criticism of the federal government. This comes as it is often common for presidents of faith-based universities to adopt a policy of neutrality, but this could be problematic for them as their religious order believes that attacks on human dignity are more moral ones than political ones. The Catholic Church, along with several other faith communities, has publicly condemned racism and antisemitism, and its stance on violence against immigrants and refugees is clear. However, college presidents risk losing their moral authority if they ignore these issues. The author suggests that faith-related institutions have historically been leaders in addressing issues such in a healthy society, support democracy and promote the public good.
