Whale swims off sandbank after big German rescue effort on Baltic coast

A humpback whale has reportedly freed itself from a sandbank near the German coastal city of Lübeck after a series of rescue attempts. The whale, which is approximately 12-15m in length, was first spotted on Monday and several attempts were made to free it. The Institute for Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research confirmed that the whale had swum off the sandbank. It is currently being escorted by several boats around the coast.
