The Eta Aquariids, known for their fast and bright meteors, are expected to peak over Central Florida on May 5-6. The moon will remain very full until nearly dawn, setting around 5 a.m. local time. If weather cooperates, there are potential fireballs that can last several seconds to minutes. The National Weather Service predicts partly cloudy skies for both nights in the Orlando and Tampa Bay areas, while further south, the Miami area is expected to be partly cloudy. The last outburst year was in 2024, when viewers reported seeing about one shooting star per minute. The Etaquariids radiate from the constellation Aquarius the Water Bearer, but are difficult to find due to their lack of prominent stars.
