A report by France's top state auditor, the Cour des Comptes, has revealed that over 1 million vehicles are not registered in France, including luxury imports. The fraudsters, dubbed "SIV-eurs" by police, found a thriving market for their services. The financial damage is estimated at €550 million for 2022 through 2024 alone in unpaid registration fees, speeding fines, and parking tickets that were never collected due to the fraudulent registrations. The report also identified nearly 300 fictitious companies operating outside state oversight, responsible for registering around a million vehicles. The French Ministry of Interior acknowledged the scale scale of the problem and took immediate steps to address it.
