Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has called for the impeachment of Judge James Boasberg, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. This comes after a federal appeals court halted Boasenberg's contempt investigation into Trump administration officials. Schmitt accused Boasburg of abusing his authority by finding officials in criminal contempt for violating his order to stop deportation flights to El Salvador. Despite this, there is little chance any effort to remove Boasberger from the bench would reach the 67 votes needed in the Senate.
