When KaOS Linux dropped the Plasma Plasma desktop in favor of Niri, the new default desktop for KaOS, I initially thought it was a sign of the end of the days. Niri is a scrollable tiling compositor, which allows users to scroll across all windows in a horizontal plane, allowing them to find the window they want to work with. KaOS is free to install and use and includes the Octopi GUI app store where users can install thousands of applications. The release of KaOS also includes a selection of office suites (KDE Office or LibreOffice) and a pacman package manager. Despite these changes, the author praises Niri's elegant and efficient desktop design.
