Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi militia has warned Saudi Arabia that it could impose a "siege" in response to recent attacks. The militia was prepared to apply the principle of "sessions for siege, airport for airport and port for port", according to Houthi Defence Minister Mohammed al-Atafi. This follows an airstrike on the airport in Sana'a, which the Houthis blamed on Saudi Arabia. The Defence Ministry of Yemen's internationally recognized government, backed by Saudi Arabia, claimed responsibility for the attack. The Houthis have threatened to attack targets including oil facilities and airports. A further escalation in the war between Washington and Tehran could see the militia attack shipping at the Red Sea, potentially disrupting the Suez Canal shipping route.
