Dallas has been awarded $51.5 million in federal funding for public-safety costs related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, part of a $625 million federal grant program for the 11 U.S. host cities. The money will help state and local officials prepare for the tournament through security drills, background checks, stronger cybersecurity, increased police and emergency response at FIFA venues. The funding is expected to strengthen security operations and bolster the department's ability to protect residents and visitors. The grant program is being distributed through FEMA, which has been hampered by a partial government shutdown and a lack of resources due to three funding lapses. The other host city committees receiving funding are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Seattle.
