Conan O'Brien was replaced by YouTube star Mr. Beast as Oscar host in a pre-taped skit by Sean Penn's character, Steven J. Lockjaw. The skit recreates Lockjaws final scene in Paul Thomas Anderson's film One Battle After Another, recreating the scene where Lockjakes' final scene where he becomes a member of the Christmas Adventurers Club. The parody also included a "sign-off" for O’Brien, who has been praised for his performance as host of the Academy Awards. This is believed to be his second consecutive year hosting the Oscars.
