A surfer, reportedly 39 years old, was seriously injured in a shark attack off the coast of Big River Beach in Mendocino Headlands State Park on March 18. The victim was helped out of the water by three off-duty lifeguards who also provided medical attention. The surfer was transported to Fort Bragg for treatment. The Caliornia State Lifeguards highlighted the importance of ocean lifeguard programs in the area. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is leading an investigation into the attack.
