The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will study the potential strain on public utilities and health effects of large data centers, which use large amounts of electric power and water. The study will be conducted in four months. The original motion by First District Supervisor Hilda Solis was amended after it was met with support from many construction unions who argue that the construction of these large data centres can provide jobs. This move comes as concerns grow about the impact of these facilities on utility rates and environmental impacts. Critics have raised concerns about electricity consumption, water usage for cooling, noise pollution, and air quality. If the county fails to meet these demands, it could require more imported water from the Colorado River or Northern California.
