Sources: MLBPA fires COO, human resources head with cause

The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLPA) has fired two top executives, Xavier James and Michael O'Neill, with cause following an internal investigation commissioned by players following a federal investigation into alleged financial improprieties at the union. The firings follow the resignation of executive director Tony Clark in February. The Eastern District of New York launched an investigation into the union last year, focusing its inquiry on several of its business interests. Longtime major leaguer Chris Capuano will take over as the new COO. The union plans to share information with federal investigators.
