Boston's World Cup organizers are facing financial difficulties, with expectations for a smaller series of fan celebrations this summer than they initially planned. FIFA has been the primary sponsor of the tournament, selling out its top sponsorship packages and expects to earn $1.8 billion from commercial sponsorship. The host committee has listed three sponsors: MeetBoston, Sanofi, and State Street. The head of the host committee, Mike Loynd, acknowledged the difficulty of fundraising, noting that the committee's budget may fall below $100 million. Despite this, he said the committee had aspirations for a larger FanFest and larger regional events for the World Cup.
