The ROTC cadets from Old Dominion University have been recognized by the Army for their role in stopping a shooting that resulted in the death of their professor, Lt. Col. Michael St. Michael. The honours were given during a private ceremony attended by the Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll and Sergeant Major Michael Weimer. The incident occurred March 12, when Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a student with ties to the Islamic State, opened fire in a classroom and injured several people before being stopped by the shooter. The building where the shooting occurred will not reopen for the rest of the semester.
