China's military hospital ship, the Silk Road Ark, was set to sail across Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025 with a tour aimed at showing its influence in the region. However, only six out of 33 countries, Brazil, Chile, Jamaica, and Barbados, agreed to receive the ship. Nicaragua and Uruguay were added as technical stops. Chile, Peru, and Peru were also excluded due to health care concerns. The U.S. launched a military tour in Latin America, covering the Caribbean, North, Central and South America, including the USS Nimitz and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the USS Gridley. The tour also includes exercises with Argentina, Chile and Colombia, Peru and Mexico, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Uruguay. The mission is highlighted by a recent congressional hearing for the U.K. to reassert and enforce the Monroe Doctrine to restore American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere and protect our homeland and our access to key geographies throughout the region, according to Gen. Francis L. Donovan.
