Actor and activist Jane Fonda, founder of the Committee for the First Amendment, has criticized the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for ordering the review of Disney's ABC licenses, calling it a "naked attempt to weaponize government power against dissent" The FCC's order came a day after President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump called for Disney and ABC to fire comedian Jimmy Kimmel over a joke he made about his wife. Fonda accused the FCC of using federal power to narrow the range of acceptable speech to only approve only approved voices in a free society. The FCC’s Media Bureau is reviewing ABC”s licenses for eight owned-and-operated stations for early review due to an investigation into potential violations of its “prohibition on unlawful discrimination” rule.
