Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy has declared a disaster in the Northwest Arctic Borough due to months of extreme weather. The declaration activates the state's Public Assistance program, which will provide funding to restore critical infrastructure and support emergency response. The affected communities include Selawik, Shungnak, Ambler and Buckland. The damage now requires extensive thawing work and permanent repairs.
