Art dealer Larry Gagosian recalls rare misstep with San Francisco gallery: ‘Nobody showed up’

Art dealer Larry Gagosian, known as the world's most powerful art dealer, experienced a setback when he opened a San Francisco location near MoMA in 2016, where "nobody showed up" and a former Geneva location was also a mistake. With 18 global locations, including Beverly Hills and New York, he is now preparing to unveil his latest New York space at 980 Madison Avenue. He is also being displaced from the same building where he first opened in 1989 by Bloomberg Philanthropies, which bought up most of the property.
