The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, proposed by President Trump, could result in long drives for millions of American voters, forcing them to present their citizenship documents to register to vote. The SAVE Act would require individuals to present documents in person to an "appropriate elections official" effectively eliminating online and mail-in registration. Over 21 million voting-age Americans lack the documents required to register, according to the Brennan Center for Justice. The average American lives about 20 minutes from their nearest election office, which can more than double as far as 49 minutes. However, the SAVE act does not define who counts as an "appropriately elections official."
