A tiny Haight Street kiosk becomes San Francisco’s newest radio station

A long-abandoned Fotomat kiosk on Haight Street, near Amoeba Music, has reopened as an online radio station and community gathering space. The project was initiated by Program Audio, a local label and party collective, which began streaming from the kiosk after quietly renovating it. The kiosk, which dates back to 1978, is one of the last of its kind in San Francisco and aims to create a rare artist-run space in a city where such venues have steadily disappeared. The reinvention comes as artists and promoters warn that independent, artist-controlled spaces are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.
