Prosecutors in Missouri have charged 19-year-old Ke'Montae Phillips with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for the fatal shooting of his sister's ex-boyfriend. The incident occurred just before 5:50 p.m. last Tuesday in Kansas City. The victim was fatally shot while shielding his mother from gunfire. Prosecutors allege that Phillips, the brother of the victim's former-girlfriend, approached the victim and his mother on foot with an automatic rifle-style firearm and opened fire on them. The mother told investigators that her son shielded her from the gunfire as they ran. Police recovered 35 spent shell casings at the scene and used surveillance video and automated license plate readers to track the sedan seen before and after the shooting.
