The legal team of Aung San Suu Kyi, the former leader of Myanmar, plans to meet with them this weekend after she was transferred to house arrest by the military-backed government. This comes after the military ousted her civilian government in a coup in 2021, which triggered a deadly civil war. Her whereabouts have been unclear since the announcement of her house arrest. After a series of secret trials following the coup, she was sentenced to 33 years in prison for various charges including corruption and inciting election fraud. Her sentence was reduced by an additional one-sixth as part of a wider amnesty of prisoners in Myanmar's jails.
