Cuba suffers nationwide blackout after announcing economic reforms

Cuba experienced a nationwide electricity blackout, affecting the island's entire population, hours after the country announced it would allow for inward foreign investment for the first time. The power grid collapsed, a result of Cuba's ongoing energy crisis. The country is currently running on about 40% of its fuel needs, which is dwindling daily due to a lack of fuel entering the country. The Ministry of Energy and Mines confirmed the "complete disconnection" of the national grid and is investigating. The U.S. Embassy in Havana issued a warning that the national electrical grid is increasingly unstable and frequent power outages are occurring throughout the country, including Havana. By Tuesday morning, 31% of Havana's power had been restored.
