China Eyes Brazil Infrastructure as Trump Pushes Back

Brazil is the only major Latin American economy deepening Chinese infrastructure ties rather than unwinding them, creating a potential conflict with Washington ahead of the presidential election. This comes as Trump's National Security Strategy calls for Chinese companies to be removed from Latin American infrastructure, including ports, railways, and strategic assets. Brazil's transport ministry plans to expand rail’s share of freight from 20% to 35%, with eight railway concessions covering 9,000 km and an estimated R$140 billion in investment set for auction. Chinese infrastructure firms have shown significant interest in Brazil's railways and ports, with Power China citing $4 billion in existing investments and studying new highway, rail, and energy projects. The question is whether Brazil can deepen these ties without provoking direct response from Washington.
