This 2003 Jet Hit Could’ve Had a Totally Different Meaning if This Original Lyric Made the Cut

Australian rock band Jet released their debut single, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," in 2003, which was a hit in Australia, Canada, and the U.K. However, the original lyrics were initially negative, leading to a change in direction. The lead singer, Nic Cester, rewrote the song in record time and it became an Australian staple song. The song's Strokes-inspired groove and jangly, Kinks-y guitars contributed to its distinctive sound. Despite comparisons to Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life," the song was stylized much more like Motown.
